I cut sheet aluminum that I found in an old lamp. Formed it around a plastruct shape. The formed lifting channel before super glueing to the side of the dumpster.

Start with a Plastruct shape.File grooves into the front face.Cut and assemble sheet styrene for the sides and dumpster cover door. Then glue on your lift channels on each side.

Thanks dude. The graffiti on the completed model are user names of the other participants of an online forum Group Build that this was entered into.

cool thanks. After the build, post your solution for HO scale casters for the bottom of the dumpsters. I cut little pieces of plastic for a realistic spacing under mine.

im working on my first kit. as i was painting the graff i got to thinking i would need some dumpsters for the back alley and remembered this thread. here is some progress on the building. not happy with the brick here. i may take to it with some chalks this evening. the back alley with the cils incomplete - got a little sloppy on the yellow. your first photo gives me some good ideas for the graffiti and buffing technique. "Front Street" also a little detail cil work and more colors for the remaining dentals. KO - where did you cop the plastruct cube?

Nice kit. That's one whole city block www.plastruct.com/I picked it up at a hobby shop some time back. It's sold in 24" or 36" lengths. They make all kinds of shapes and sizes. I cut mine down to the size using an X-Acto razor saw and miter box. The material is soft plastic, perfect for scratch building, but not compatible with the standard styrene liquid cements for plastic models. You have to pick up some of their special name brand formula cements or use CA (super glue). Evergreen styrene, www.evergreenscalemodels.com/ is not cheap either but is compatible with standard hobby cements. Your brick work paint looks fine. I see the white wash for mortar and some black wash for that tasty weathered molding and grime. Maybe a few steaks running down from a window sill or two will add detail. Then add a couple of those small diameter, coffee stir straws for the drain pipes from the roof. I'd paint those flat black and after cure time, follow with a brown wash for rust.

Im gonna try to get some of the whitewash off first (probably with rubing alcohol) and hopefully it just leaves the white mortar. ill follow that with another thin coat of diluted black - and then some rust accents. cant wait to finish this one and move onto the next kit.

lol, actually i painted them like that intentionally. the kit does not come painted. Im not really fond of the orange either, but with a kit like this the intention is to make it look like 5 seperate buildings. If all the cils and dentals were painted one color, it would look like one building, and not 5. Here is the photo from the box just to reference: this a lot fancier than mine of course, but this was my first kit i didnt realize how popular this kit is. I have seen it in about 7 or 8 layouts since i got it.
