ok - im no expert at this by any means...this is my third real weathering project. but i thought id share my technique. the vic! GN boxcar-the Buda piece prior to completion. The KCS will go under the ringer next. weapons of choice- dabbing thinner on the logo to make it look faded. logo faded a coat of acrylic white and brown thinned down with windex. i did this in two steps to dull the toy plastic shine. while i was waiting for that to dry, i painted the wheel innards and submerged the trucks in a bag of dark rust weatherng chalk. use the dust remover to remove the excess... after using a dry brush to apply the weathering chalk to the body of the car, i sued a fine brush to try some rust drippings (didnt come out like i wanted it to) finished product... needs a little work and im running out of cars to practice on. i really ned an airbrush to take this to the next level.

Your technique of fading the logo works. Looks like you aged the BUDA and cloud as well. I like how you paint them in scale as it would be on a prototype. Maybe a few upper areas would be flared out, where it would be out of reach. ..it happens sometimes.... Unless this IS a model of a proto. I've never seen the dusted trucks weathering tech before. I'm going to try that. I've been on a non train related project lately, but this thread just inspired me. cool dude.

yeah most non modelers paint big ass pieces on models. I prefer pannels. I may do a wholecar one day though...
