..if so, they your all about scrtchbuild. i made this grass out of sawdust, a .98 tube of acrylic paint and water. i got the sawdust for free at home depot. the dude was happy to give it to me because now he dosent have to get rid of it. i started to boost the paint, but i had to turn the writer instincts off. the complete tutorial of how to do it is here: www.scratchbuildersguild.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=55:scratch-made-ground-cover&catid=23:landscaping&Itemid=37check out the site also if ur a miser like me: www.scratchbuildersguild.com/mine turned out a little light. but i have a gang of sawdust so ill be experimenting with other colors this weekend. i also found that lichen is commonly used in model rr scenery. they had some in the store, but i found a gang of it in my backyard near a decaying tree. also HO scale cars in the hobby shop are like 10-13 dollars. Walmart 1:87 automobiles 2.97...badda bing.

Great tip and link! Yes I'm cheap. I bring home scrap plastic and foam from work all the time. Our grass in the yard is dying, so your ground cover isn't light, it's right on point. Depending on the geo location of your layout.
I don't shop at Wallmart for reasons that can be in another forum thread. However, your point regarding price of hobby specific items vs. other alternatives is very realistic. Nice score BTW.

i would really rather support the hobby store, and i will actually be needing a couple of cement mixers and dump trucks for the sand lot I am building. so the hobby store will get the business at some point. I also spend a lot of money there on rolling stock and misc stuff you cant get at walmart - or hobby lobby for that matter. im all about the mom and pop when i can afford it. f**k the super chains.
im modeling the reigon i live in, so the grass should be a bit richer green, like the green in the background. but ill be trying again this weekend.
you have inspired me to actually boost the paint from wally world.
