whoa, these are starting to look great
Are those W&N oils good to work with? I need to get a set for weathering and want to know where to start, as far as brand products
That CR is getting real real looking, esp the logo. Maybe soften blend fade those three orange rust streaks on that logo a little. Then follow up with a darker hue right over those streaks just as soft.

Are those W&N oils good to work with? I need to get a set for weathering and want to know where to start, as far as brand products the oils were only used on the CR. sitppled on to create texture. the wintons seemed to work fine. about 6$ a tube, but using such a small amount for each project these tubes will last forever. the overall grime however is gouache wash, ivory black and burnt umber mixed real thin with some setting solution. That CR is getting real real looking, esp the logo. Maybe soften blend fade those three orange rust streaks on that logo a little. Then follow up with a darker hue right over those streaks just as soft. yeah, thats exactly what i need to fix, the rust streaks. I was thinking of using a thinned mix of the same floquil rust color and maybe some black to soften them and give them some depth. definitly opened to suggestions on how to achieve this. I may also knock some of the grime off the ladder as well...looks a little overdone to me. Im gonna leave the MB as is. really just wanted that one to be subtile since its a newer car.

Yeah, I need to take a look at a set of oils. I still use hobby brand; enamel, laquer, and acrylics. I gots the pastels, though
Cool with the book. We're excited to add this to the library

I've been purchasing the same oils that you have 1-2 tubes at a time
our local sunday paper includes 40% and 50% off coupons for a local arts crafts store that sells them. I got all the browns that I think I need and an Ivory Black. Next I'll get Flesh Tint and then into the Blues then Reds

im psyched to see the incredible stuff you pull off with that. i got this in the mail yesterday: also picked up some stipling brushes and fine brushes for graffiti...really interested in the decal thing too. my workshop is a bit messy right now as i have been working on some non related projects around the house. plan to get back to weathering over the thanksgiving holiday - and then christmas. there is a show in atlanta in february and im saving up for it i want to have most if not all of my current cars weathered by then so i can make room for all the new cars i plan to aquire...

Your wheels on that BNFE look great, all rusty looking. That painting jig up there seems to be well designed. Just flex open the top 'fingers' and pop the wheel sets in?

yeah, it works great, but poorly made. i already broke one of the fingers...maybe im just heavy handed. there is another company that makes a better designed one but i have not been able to find it. i saw it on one of the mtw tutorials..

These are shaping up. Are you going to replicate the prototype in your picture at the top? yup, love the evay scores for sure! In the second picture, that box car looks huge next to the two HO gondolas

im replicating the top one, yeah. not looking forward to doing the decals though. the big one is a G scale thinking about doing the "p-nut tracy" from freight train graffiti. a friend of mine has an original can of cascade green scotty - would be pretty sick to do it with that actual color.
